APK Tools

A. Wilcox (awilfox@) added a mention of the search applet to the output of apk --help, an omission noted by fungalnet on Reddit. They also fixed an issue with virtual package versions that caused APK Tools to use a string past its stack lifetime.

Max Rees (sroracle@) changed virtual package versions to always use UTC time, so that local timezone changes and daylight savings time would not cause issues with virtual package updates.

  • Updated APK Tools to its current version, 2.10.4, and merged in the patches from the Adélie Linux team as described above.
  • Updated 12 Perl modules, the Argon2 password library, and bash-completion to their current versions.
  • Changed easy-kernel configuration to allow for better network performance on wireless and cellular links.
  • Fixed an issue in the ICU Unicode library that caused issues with formatting dates on 32-bit x86 computers.

Weekly Status Report: 2019-06-23

Hello all!

This has been an exciting week for Adélie Linux. We have formally created an Infrastructure Team, responsible for managing our servers and network infrastructure. This will allow us to have a more holistic approach to tending to our server systems, and help ensure that administration is handled smoothly and cleanly. We have also added and updated many packages; read on for more about these developments.

APK Tools

Max Rees (sroracle@) has identified and fixed an important security bug in APK Tools that has been issued CVE-2019-12875.

Kernel

A. Wilcox (awilfox@) updated the -mc patchset to 4.14.127, creating -mc14.

Packaging

  • Updated 20 Perl modules to their current versions.
  • Updated many packages to their current versions, including eudev, the Enchant spell check library, file system utilities, Git, OpenSSL, the Ruby programming language, the SASS web development package, Subversion, the VLC Media Player, Wacom tablet support, various KDE applications, and various X11 applications and drivers.
  • Updated the POWER8 and POWER9 kernel package to the newest patchset.
  • Updated the packaging for the Quaternion Matrix chat client.
  • Fixed security issues in the Expat XML library and the libarchive tar package.
  • Added experimental builds for the LMMS music creation package, and the Nim programming language. (Note: These packages are not yet available for Adélie Linux.)

Kiyoshi Aman (aerdan@):

  • Fix installation of various fonts so that they are usable in all applications.

Luis Ressel (aranea@):

  • Updated the nsd and Unbound DNS server packages.

Max Rees (sroracle@):

Our GitLab instance is back and better than ever, now upgraded to GitLab 12. We’ve also made great strides towards 1.0-BETA3 Update 1, including many updates and important security fixes.

APK Tools

The issue we reported regarding upgrading Adélie Linux computers has been fixed. This fix has been applied to our APK Tools package. In our testing, this has solved all known upgrading issues. We thank Timo Teräs for his expedient patch!

Hello all!

This week saw the release of Adélie Linux 1.0-BETA3! We have spent the past weekend working on closing issues that the community has found, and we’re excited to have already made progress on many of them. Because of this, we are planning to release an official 1.0-BETA3 Update 1 later this month. We are also very excited to have been mentioned in last week’s issue of DistroWatch!

APK Tools

We reported and wrote a patch for Alpine bug #10532, which causes some Adélie Linux computers to fail to upgrade from one version to another. We hope a version of APK Tools with this patch will be released soon.

Packaging

  • Fixed an issue with libwacom causing certain tablets to be incorrectly identified.
  • Fixed multiple issue with xfce4-session that caused XFCE to not start or shut down correctly.
  • Fixed Clang on 64-bit PowerPC and 32-bit Intel (PMMX).
  • Updated Valgrind to 3.15.0, courtesy of a patch from Daniel Kolsea.
  • Updated kernel configurations for all architectures for better hardware support and reliability.
  • Updated java-common to ensure JAVA_HOME is always set when a JRE is installed.
  • Fixed the default permissions of /var/tmp on new installs.
